Your face is leaking data in virtual meetings: a new attack reveals what you’re viewing with 99% accuracy. 👩🏻💻🎥👀👨🏻💻💡
An international team of security researchers from Zhengzhou University (China) and Durham University (UK) has presented a novel privacy attack for video conferencing: a person’s face can unintentionally reveal what they’re doing on their computer during a video call.
When you look at a screen, your face is illuminated by light emitted from the display. Different apps (Gmail, Word, YouTube, coding tools, etc.) produce different patterns of color and brightness. These patterns can be captured, analyzed, and... gotcha!
The researchers were able to identify specific applications with 99.3% accuracy.
How can you protect yourself?
Use multiple monitors.
Enable beauty or skin-smoothing filters.
Use dark mode.
Very interesting research and impressive results :) Enjoy the read!
