Inside the Google security chip for Pixel phones: Nugget OS insights & the USB-C debug cable. ๐ฑ๐ฌ๐๐ดโโ ๐
Security researcher Willem Hengeveld shares his deep reverse-engineering project focused on the security chip inside Google Pixel phones, specifically the Titan series. The phones in scope of the research are the Pixel 3, 4, 5, and 6.
Why is it important? Because Titan chips manage critical phone security functions like PINs, cryptographic keys, verified boot, and secure authentication.
By studying thousands of firmware versions and disassembling code, the author gradually figured out what the Titan firmware was doing internally - from Nugget OS to undocumented RISC-V instructions to ways to enable the debug port.
Huge, deep, and very interesting research. Recommended!
