Hacking a SOHO router with a Flipper Zero: From unboxing to a root shell and password reset ᯤ🐧🐬🪚☠️
Security researcher nicknamed Scoozi Research shared earlier this year their hardware-hacking trial using a Flipper Zero. They bought a cheap SOHO router, a Netis WF-2404, and disassembled it.
The series of posts below are:
Day 1 - Identifying components & getting UART shell
Day 2 - Exploring filesystem & cracking root password
Day 3 - Unauthenticated password reset attack
Among the many interesting things in the posts and the author’s colorful language, one point became clear very quickly: hard-coded passwords are a problem, but hard-coded, easily guessable passwords are a nightmare. “realtek” as the root password - seriously?!
Enjoy the read, and maybe share your own home hardware-hacking project. I’m sure many people would be glad to learn from you!
