Breaking into Fermax DUOX PLUS: the first step in reverse-engineering proprietary comms. ๐ช๐ ๐ฌ๐ ๏ธ๐จ๐ปโ๐ป
Security researcher Kirils Solovjovs presents the first, hardware-hacking part of his ongoing research into the Fermax DUOX PLUS communication system, focusing on its proprietary communication protocol.
Apparently, this is a two-wire bus: the same pair supplies roughly 24 V DC and carries communications. The wires can be connected either way because the device internally handles reversed polarity. Nice!
Super interesting talk! Especially for those of us who carry senior status, this presentation may be a good, friendly reminder that sometimes valid measurements can still be misleading, and some tricks are hidden in the basics :)
Enjoy the read, watch the video, or do both! Iโm looking forward to the second part of the research next year.
P.S. I believe I already posted an earlier version of this research, but this is the beauty of ongoing research - it can be a continuous source of joy! :)
