Attacking RFID access control systems: hacker wisdom packed into a 52-minute video presentation. ๐ข๐ณ๐จ๐ปโ๐ป๐งฌ๐
Security researcher Marco Sanchez, in his recent presentation on attacking RFID-based access control systems, takes you in ~50 minutes from the basics of physical access security to the latest tools and techniques used to attack access control devices.
I totally agree with the author: security depends not only on the card itself (which we usually blame) but also on the entire ecosystem - readers, controllers, communication protocols, and physical installation.
BTW, you may reprogram legitimate RFID readers into mass-cloning devices: battery-powered RFID readers hidden inside ordinary backpacks can collect credential information while the attacker simply walks through a crowd.
Do you still wear your RFID badge while riding public transportation or heading out for lunch? Check the backpacks around :)
A very interesting and insightful presentation. It will be useful for professionals and especially helpful for beginners interested in RF attacks - so enjoy the video, and please share it with your friends and colleagues. Thanks!
